“G Plus means guitar with something else. This can be guitar with other instruments, (e.g. the G Plus Ensemble) or guitar with electronics (e.g. the three movements of The Third Fire by John Metcalfe, composed specifically for G Plus). Both ideas are being explored in this project. The G Plus ensemble here consists of two guitars, strings and percussion. This line-up was discovered by chance and works extraordinarily well. I was first drawn to it following my collaborations with string quartets.” Tom Kerstens.
Double Album Launch:
Tom Kerstens’ G Plus Ensemble will be part of one of the biggest guitar events this summer launching their forthcoming album, IGNiTE alongside classical guitar virtuosos Eden Stell Guitar Duo‘s new album, Cançons i danses.
IGNiTE is a unique and important release for the future of guitar music. All tracks offer great new guitar music, all especially commissioned by IGF’s Artistic Director Tom Kerstens. Tom’s G Plus Ensemble is dedicated to performing new music, its line-up of two guitars, strings and percussion, often using electronic effects, produces a ravishing and innovative sound. The new album presents new work by today’s most prestigious contemporary composers working in the UK such as Max Richter, Gabriel Jackson, Howard Skempton, Anna Meredith and John Metcalfe.
